Gelatin is used to stabilise vaccines following manufacture and gelatin allergy is extremely rare. Individuals who have experience a confirmed anaphylactic reaction to gelatin should not be given the MMR, Shingles or Varicella vaccines. In the UK, the Priorix brand of MMR does not contain gelatin and can safely be given to gelatin-allergic individuals, whereas the MMR VaxPro contains porcine gelatin and should not be given.
