The role of BSACI Psychology Special Interest Group.

The Psychology Special Interest Group was set up in 2021 with the aim to promote the psychological care and well-being of patients with allergies and their families.  Allergy can have a profound impact on the psychological well-being and quality of life of patients and parents.  There is an unmet need for psychological services for allergy in the UK.  The work of this group aims to advocate for and improve access to psychological services for those in need.

OBJECTIVES & WORKSTREAMS

  • Promote awareness of the psychological impact of allergy on the lives of patients and their families
  • Provide resources for psychological support for patients and families for those working in primary, secondary and tertiary care
  • Advocate for effective psychological interventions for patients with food allergy and their families
  • Develop best practice guidelines for providing psychological support for patients and families

CURRENT PROJECTS

  • Evaluation of current psychological support and services for patients with food allergy and families
  • Development of information and materials for HCPs that may help with psychological support of patients and families in clinic
  • Development of online psychological intervention to help patients and families manage food allergy

  • Webinars, conference presentations, presentations to HCPs

COMING SOON

  • Training and education workshop for HCPs wanting to know more about how to help their food allergy patients and their families with psychological support
  • Resource area on the BSACI website
